Timberlea is a rural/suburban community the edge of Halifax. The translation of Timberlea means broad meadow in a forest. Originally the community was known as Nine Mile River because of a river located in the centre of the community which fed several early mills.

Timberlea is a short commute from the City of Halifax. Residents enjoy a quiet atmosphere and have a great sense of community. Schools in the area offer both English and French immersion. The community also reports less crime than downtown Halifax. The current population as of 2022 is 5,497 and families are 49% of this total.

There is lots of opportunity for recreation in Timberlea such as the Bluff Wilderness hiking trails. If you love golf visit the Links at Brunello. The area also enjoys recreational facilities like hiking, cycling and ATV trails.

In the last few years with the housing boom and low interest rates the community has grown but Real Estate is still cheaper in the Timberlea area compared to most of Halifax. There are benefits to moving outside of the city like larger lots, less traffic, and less noise.
