Wander around your home looking for unused space because there’s good chance you are not using your home to its full potential. Do you use corners for a dumping ground for papers and magazines? Examine bare walls or tiny spaces in your home that you’d love to transform.
Let’s explore a few great ideas on how to repurpose unused spaces in your home and make them into functional and beautiful spaces.
1. Identify what’s missing
Identify what’s missing in your home. If you work from home and you find yourself working at the kitchen table or in front of the tv maybe you need a workstation. Maybe you would like to have an area in your home for yoga or a gym? Do you like to do arts and crafts or other hobbies and would like a craft room? Design your space to serve as a solution to these issues.
2. Change the layout of a room
Changing the layout of your furniture in a room can make your room more organized and functional. Remove unused furniture and replace with a bookshelf to create a library or reading nook.
3. Transform the guest room
If you have a guest room you only use a few times a year it might be a great place to setup a home office or TV room. There are many great sofa beds on the market that take up less space than a bed. A sofa bed can provide an extra place to sit during the day and sleeping arrangement at night. If you don’t have room for a desk you can consider a wall mounted table that can fold down when not in use.
Add a couple of selves with décor or books to liven up the room. Add patterns or color to the walls and voila you have a cozy place to work, read or watch TV. Make the best of this space and turn it into a multi-functional space with a design that suits your style and needs.
4. Reorganize your closet space
Closets are a great place to find more space. Is there room for more shelving? Decorative boxes are another great way to organize the items you are storing. Remember you are on a mission to waste no space!
5. Finding additional storage for your kitchen
Is there room between your appliances and the cupboards? Maximize your space and purchase a narrow slide out drawers or carts that can hold spices, recipe books, etc. If you have room for an island with drawers and cupboards it will offer you additional storage and more work space for preparing meals.
You can cut into the sheetrock wall and build shelving between the studs. This will create a small pantry for your canned goods and kitchen stuff. Add trim and a door and you have additional cabinet space.
6. Using space above your doors for extra storage
If you have space above or behind your doors you can add a bookshelf or display your decorative items or souvenirs. A wardrobe bag or collapsible wardrobe hanger can fit nicely behind a door for your extra clothing items.
7. Storage under stairs
Don’t forget the valuable storage space under your stairs. Its popular today to utilize that space. You can build in shelves or create a small reading nook. Its even a great space for pet beds. Books shelves and with boxes can also provide extra stylish storage space.
